Capsule Wardrobe

Ainda na linha dos posts introdutórios quero falar sobre o conceito de capsule wardrobe, e sobre a aplicação que fiz dele ao meu próprio guarda-roupa.

Há um par de meses atrás descobri via Pinterest o conceito através de uma partilha do blog Unfancy, no qual a autora gentilmente disponibilizou um planner grátis que, devo dizer, me ajudou bastante a iniciar o processo. Sumariamente, o capsule wardrobe é constituído por um número limitado de peças (a Unfancy estabeleceu 37, mas não é obrigatório) que funcione mediante o número de cenários integrantes do lifestyle de cada pessoa; essas peças devem ser escolhidas com critérios rigorosos, sendo necessário avaliar em cada peça em causa se ela ainda serve, se não está velha/manchada irreversivelmente, se a permanência dela não se deve simplesmente à marca, and so on. O objectivo é que se construa um guarda-roupa funcional, no qual as peças dêem todas umas com as outras, e apenas com peças que assentem realmente bem e com cores com as quais te identifiques e gostes – mas o mais importante de tudo: roupas que no seu conjunto criem outfits que vão ao encontro do teu estilo pessoal. Sendo que o guarda-roupa também é uma expressão da nossa identidade, logo se percebe a importância deste último ponto.

No meu caso, construí o meu primeiro capsule wardrobe no início de Setembro, isto é uma cápsula de Outono. Defini o meu número de peças em 40 com uma particularidade: ainda não incluí o calçado. Esse é um passo que terei de dar em futuras cápsulas, mas confesso que ainda não foi desta que houve coragem.

Still in an introduction vibe, I want to talk to you about the capsule wardrobe concept and also how I adopted it.

A couple of months ago I stumbled upon it via Pinterest, through a share of the Unfancy blog, in which the author generously shares a free planner that I must say offered me much needed guidance in building my capsule. So, in a few words, a capsule wardrobe has a limited number of pieces (Unfancy established hers as 37, not mandatory tho) that you should define taking into account the number of social scenarios or activities that form your lifestyle, however no need to get too stuck on a number. Those pieces should be chosen among the ones you own following some strict rules like if it fit you well, if it’s old/stained irreversibly, or if you just have it because of the brand, and so on. The main goal is to build this wardrobe that, along with being functional, is intersectionable and built with colors that you love. But most of all, the goal is that when you mix and match your pieces, you get outfits that meet your personal style – and being your style one of the most relevant expressions of individuality, this is definitly the most important part.

In my case, I built my first capsule in the beginning of September, meaning a Fall capsule. I defined my number of pieces as 40, with a particularity: i haven’t included shoes yet. This is a step that I know I’ll have to eventually take, but I just haven’t had the courage.

The final result: my fully organized capsule wardrobe

Pieces (40):

  • 6 coats: a parka, a tweed blazer, leather jacket, 2 stronger coats (blue and grey), and a grey blazer.
  • 3 dresses: a Spring flowered dress, a black jumpsuit and a little black dress
  • 4 shirts: a denim one, a red plaid shirt, a simple white shirt and a vertical striped one.
  • 10 tops: white, black, Two white middle-sleeved, a blue striped crop long sleeve, a red middle-sleeved, a yellow one, a water green one, a bordeaux long sleeve and a white tee.
  • 4 sweaters: a black crop sweater, a white one, a blue middle-sleeved one and a black one.
  • 3 cardigans: black, bottle green and a black one with golden tacks.
  • 7 pants: 5 skinny jeans with various tones from very light blue to black, blue suit pants and patterned ones.
  • 2 shorts: blue striped and black striped (both vertical stripes, I’m kind of pear shaped).
  • 1 skirt: floral round mini skirt.
