World savings day

Hey there!

So today is the World Savings Day and Halloween, which doesn’t add that well since Halloween got us spending money on costumes we’ll probably never wear again. Anyway I thought I’d write a list of tips for saving money (based on experience) to mark a World day that everyone forgets.

Saving money is actually a big part of my life, not just because my country is in a crisis since almost forever, but because I’m kind of addicted to saving money. It just makes me happy.

  1. First on the list should definitely be “adopt minimalism” but that’s a bit more complex than it sounds, so just change your atittude on buying. This means that you should look at the act of buying with seriousness, keep in mind you’re not just adding one more item to your life, you’re: a) spending money you could be saving for something you really want or need; b) adding more clutter to your life and consequently more stress; c) most of the times satisfying a consumerism impulse; This mindset could really change your finances, it’s really a matter of perspective.

2.    If you want/need a specific item, do some research before you buy it. Information is power when it comes to making decisions on buying.Try to be as efficient of an economic agent as you can, you have a lot to win (or in this case save) if you do your homework.

3.    Make a previous list, either you are grocery shopping, clothing or accessory shopping, makeup… doesn’t matter, list everything – this takes some planning, and when you plan it’s easier to stick to it.

4.    Spend only money you can see/feel/touch – I don’t do this very often, but I’ve already attained some level of self-discipline on the whole impulsive spending thing. It seems that making purchases with your credit/debit card makes it easier for you to spend because you’re not really “seeing” the money taking off, when you’re buying with real banknotes and coins tho, you think twice, and it limits what you spend at the moment because you don’t have so much money “available”.

5.   Make it a habit to either eat at home, or make meals to go. This is one I should follow myself it’s good to the wallet and health too. Of course it takes some work, but the amount you can save by doing this is pretty rewarding. Besides it’s terribly hard to eat well/clean at restaurants, even when they claim it’s healthy food, the only way to truly know what you’re eating is to do it yourself. To keep costumers happy and recurrent, restaurants fill the food with taste enhancers like salt and fat. Keep that in mind and try to do it occasionally only.

Have a happy weekend!

Purchase nr 1 – Winter capsule

Today I’ve come to show you my first capsule wardrobe purchase. This item is to use on my next capsule, although I’m pretty sure I’ll be using it until December, so it’s fine for immediate use too ;-).

Like I’ve mentioned before I’m totally into oversized scarves, so I went for a biig one. I paid 15,95€ for it and I totally recommend it because it’s one of the coziest things I’ve ever had on my body.

I’m really glad that I found the colors I was looking for, I knew I wanted a multicolored one with beige as the main color because it looks great with all my winter coats that are mainly neutral, so I think it will definitely lighten things up a bit.

I bought it at Stradivarius, here’s the link if you want to take a better look at it.

Sunday food ideas #2: The importance of breakfast

Good Morning and have an amazing Sunday :)!

This week is in its last hours and with the start of a new one, I’d like to talk about the importance of breakfast. Everyone heard about it before, people actually say that it’s the most important meal of the day. So why so many people neglect this meal?

Well for starters, most people have crazy schedules and can’t really find the time, or when they wake up they’re just not hungry at all. Anyways you should always eat breakfast despite those conditions, hence the solutions:

  • 1) If you don’t have the time, get up 10-15 minutes earlier;
  • 2) If you’re not hungry right now, prepare it and take it with you to your job/school, and when you have a break eat it.

Truth is, this is about discipline too.

“Skipping meals, especially breakfast, can actually make weight control more difficult. Breakfast skippers tend to eat more food than usual at the next meal, or nibble on high-calorie snacks to stave off hunger.” source: webmd

I’ll leave you with a pic of my breakfast today, and some other breakfast ideas

Product review: Kiko city filter sunscreen primer

Today I wish to tell you about a primer I bought on Thursday: Kiko city filter sunscreen. I wanto to start by warning you that I have a combination skin type, and my experience with the product depends on that.

sem nome

With that said, I’m going to start with what I liked about it:

  • The scent: loved it, great aroma.
  • The absortion: the skin absorbs it easily and fast
  • The high SPF level, which is one of the main reasons I bought it in the first place.
  • The price: I was ready to buy it at 12,90€ (the original price) and when I got to the store it was at about half the price, that was a very pleasant surprise :). It’s still at 6.90€ if you’re interested, it’s a great time to buy it.

What I didn’t like about it:

  • It’s not the best for combined or oily types of skin because it leaves the skin a bit shiny. In my case the solution resides in powder, since it provides enough mattifying.

So this is it for my first product review, I hope it was helpful. The impression it made for now is pretty good, if there’s anything I notice about it that only comes with more time of use, I’ll let you guys know. And if you have any questions you’d like to ask about it be sure to leave a comment.

Farewell!

Capsule wardrobe and shopping lists

The capsule wardrobe concept comes from minimalistic ideas, however that doesn’t mean that you can’t shop at all. In fact, it means you’ll have 4 times of the year when you can shop – when you’re changing capsules. I’ve read some blogs where people shopped for what they thought it was missing in the beginning of the process, I don’t recommend this since the point of it all is to declutter and not to add more pieces, although if you have no basics at all you should probably consider it.

So here’s what happens: you establish a budget (for each season or for the whole year) and you force yourself to stick to it. I’ve set my budget goal as 100 euros each season, and I thinks it’s totally enough. For my winter capsule I’ll be buying two pieces only:

  1. An oversized scarf (as mentioned);
  2. Knee-high black boots
And that’s it, I’m planning on spending between 80 and 90 euros on the boots and 10 to 20 euros on the scarf.
My advice towards you folks whom are struggling with narrowing the shopping list is to check out these  questions you should ask yourself before you buy any piece of clothing, write them down and put the paper in your wallet – when you go shopping even if you planned to buy that piece, always ask yourself these. Apart from that focus only on pieces you really need or reeeeally like: these last are probably trends, so don’t spend too much on them, when buying things you actually need, try to buy timeless pieces and invest more on them.
Happy occasional shopping!
